WEDNESDAY December 23, 2004
7:30 am.

My techno ringtone on my Kyocera cell phone rings while I was applying my mascara. It's Erik, my beloved boyfriend's brother. He wants a ride to the ferry, we're both going into the city today. Sure why not!
We get to the ferry at 8:00 (plenty of time we thought). "I don't like the look of those cones" Erik mumbles. You see,the ferry is the only source of transportation we have to get across to the big smoke. More people than not HATE and DESPISE this only option. And more often than not, they screw up a person's day quicker than a huge zit on the center of your face.
Just as we suspected "an OVERLOAD", a familiar term for BC ferries, meaning, not enough room for everyone on the Sunshine Coast to get on one boat therefore you have to wait 2 hours for the next sailing. Lovely.

1st of all I should tell you. I am going into the city to get my travel VISA for my visit to Indonesia. Office hours 9:30 - 12:30. How nice.
I have approximately 1 hour by the time I get into Horseshoebay to get downtown and find this office.

Okay so change of plans. Brett has to meet me there instead of me picking him up (to save time). It turned out alright while Erik and I waited. He filled up my gas tank and treated me to breakfast. We went back to the terminal in plenty of time to be the 2 or 3rd car in the line up. I'm feeling a little better about this day. It's sunny and not that cold. We're on the boat. Lets go upstairs for a cup of tea. I get my purse, lock up my car and realized my keys are locked in there too. hahahhahaha. Hilarious! Why don't I just jump off the boat now. While erik roamed around looking for a ferry guy I rushed to the Chief's Stuart's office and trying hard not to cry I told her what happened. Thank goodness that they are equipped for situations like this and had someone jimmy (is that what you call it?) my door open. Hooray!! 1 point for BC ferries.

We're sitting on the comfy chairs while the boat sails into the sea.....Gorgeous...
Sipping on delicious home brought tea compliments of Erik, I had another realization: WHERE'S MY WALLET? Off I go to the car deck in search of my black, pink trimmed money holder. It was in my trunk. Hahahaa. Why? who knows why. ok - I'm alright. We're almost there. Not as relaxing as I wanted to ride to be.

We're on the road again. Off the Indonesian Consulate office on ALBERNI st.

Kaliya

Well....I soon changed my mind the day I got the phone call that my sister was in the delivery room. I rushed off from my office, I remember everything in such detail... I had my polkadot dress on and I remember thinking how unpractical it was for me to have been wearing a dress, what if I had to run around and help the nurses out, or get the doctor or anything that required me in runners? I arrived at the hospital with this electrical feeling thru my body. I saw my little sister lying on that bed, ready, and calm, and beautiful. I wanted to cry. She is so brave. There was more people in that room than a mexican fiesta. Despite the amount of uncles and aunts and grandmas and grandpas that were there I was honored to be given the duty of the camera girl. I was responsible to tape one of the most important moments in one's life, I was quite nervous, what if I dropped the camera at that exact moment the baby's head came out? I would forever be the family's clumsy, stupid aunty.

Somehow...I managed. I collected myself together (a few puffs of that lovely laughing gas helped a bit I'm sure) I stood at the top of my sister's bed and shot beautiful face expressions of the 4 people allowed in the room. The baby's Dad, The Grandmas and The one lucky aunty - Me! I see through the lense that I'm not really handling this camera firmly, I couldn't believe the pain my sister was in. I wanted to do something for her but I didn't know what. My sister was obviously crying, and screaming,in the most ladylike way of course, followed with an apology... "I CAN'T DO THIS" !!! ( I'm sorry)..."THIS HURTS TOO MUCH" !!! (I'm sorry)..."I'M BURNING AND RIPPING" (pardon me)...

But 6 long hours later it was over, she did it. My little sister. A perfect labor doctors would say. A beautiful baby girl with black hair, perfect olive skin, and lips like a strawberry was born to the earth.

Still holding the camera in my hand I muttered "It's a baby...."

I couldn't believe my eyes,I couldn't believe the amount of happiness and tears I felt at the same time. Watching my sister's face when Kaliya was handed to her was the most magical thing I'd ever seen.

Tea?

When you're feeling stressed out, I think it helps to make a nice hot cup of tea and then spill on the lap of of whoever's bugging you.

Cheers!

Thought of the day

There is a very fine line between "Hobby" and "Mental Illness"
